Even worse than Ignatius’ piece

is this Washington Post editorial on the “road map”. While Ignatius merely asks the Bush administration to “persuade” Sharon to accept the road map, the Post informs Bush that he must insist that Sharon accept it, without being allowed to bargain (why do liberal “tough guy” fantasies so often involve pushing Israel around?). Otherwise, the Post intones, “Mr. Bush will be blamed for another Israeli-Palestinian breakdown — and for failing to keep his own word.” Blamed, no doubt, by the Washington Post, elements of his own State Department, the Europeans, and the Arab street. But not by the American public, any more than it blames Bill Clinton or other past presidents for past breakdowns.
