al Qaeda Move to Iran?

Pakistani officials say that they think al Qaeda’s operational base has now shifted from Pakistan to Iran, the Washington Times reports.
Of course, Pakistan may have an interest in promoting the view that al Qaeda has moved on. But the officials’ claim is consistent with other recent intelligence, and intelligence agencies recently arrested two officials of Pakistan’s passport agency in Peshawar on charges of providing fake passports to hundreds of al Qaeda and Taliban, most of whom are believed to have traveled to Iran.
The Pakistanis quoted by the Times offer no opinion on whether the fugitives are being protected by the Iranian government, or whether Osama bin Laden is among them.
