The debate over Liberia continues

National Review Online presents both sides of the debate regarding intervening in Liberia. Here, Roger Carstens makes the case for intervening. Here, Ted Galen Carpenter argues that intervening would be “folly.” Carpenter is with the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank that often takes a dim view of U.S. intervention.
I could perhaps be persuaded otherwise, but my view is that we probably should not commit troops to Liberia unless we are justifiably quite confident that we can accomplish our objectives with very little risk to our troops. I doubt that we can have that level confidence in the case of Liberia.
