Not so great expectations

Today’s Washington Post contains excerpts from an interview of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon conducted by Lally Weymouth. As I read his comments, Sharon is willing to make reasonable concessions in the pursuit of peace, but is quite wary of the latest peace process. He is disturbed that Mahmoud Abbas has failed to take any steps against terrorist organizations, and he expects that these organizations (which were on the run) will now use the cease fire to rebuild. Then, he expects that terrorism will escalate whenever the Palestinians don’t get what they want in negotiations. Frankly, I don’t see how Sharon (or for that matter President Bush and Secretary of State Powell) could expect anything else.
