Another ignominious retreat for the Hollywood left: Johnny Depp’s agent read his anti-American tirade in Stern and panicked. Now Depp is back-pedaling at top speed:
“I am an American. I love my country and have great hopes for it….[My words were taken] radically out of context….There was no anti-American sentiment….What I was saying was that, compared to Europe, America is a very young country and we are still growing as a nation. My deepest apologies to those who were offended, affected, or hurt by this insanely twisted deformation of my words and intent.”
Well, I’m glad to know he doesn’t really think we’re like a “dumb puppy with big teeth.” And if I ever said Depp was a moron, it was an insanely twisted deformation of my words and intent. I meant to say he was a fool. One of many, I’m afraid, in his industry.
DEACON adds: Depp clearly does have “great hopes” for his country, the greatest one being that it will “grow” into something European so he can stop feeling ashamed.
