Remembering Rick Rescorla

Because we have previously written about Rick Rescorla on this site, we didn’t do so in connection with the 9/11 anniversary earlier this week. However, Greyhawk at the Mudville Gazette has posted a memorial that honors Rescorla’s remarkable contributions in Vietnam at the battle in the Ia Drang Valley that is the subject of We Were Soldiers Once…and Young.
James Stewart also has a good chapter on Rescorla’s heroics in Heart of a Soldier, the book that prompted our earllier discussion of Rescorla; that chapter grew out of Stewart’s New Yorker article: “The real heroes are dead.” Greyhawk’s excellent account is “9/11 Remembered: Rick Rescorla was a soldier.” (Courtesy of Hootinan.)
