Barbour Wins

So far, it’s a Republican sweep as Haley Barbour has been elected governor of Mississippi. The race wasn’t close, as Barbour won by eight points. The only reason there was any doubt is an unusual Mississippi system that requires a gubernatorial candidate not only to win more than 50% of the vote statewide to be elected, but also to carry a majority of the state’s legislative districts. Failing such a majority, the election is decided in the state’s House, which is heavily Democratic.
Only one to go: Louisiana, where Bobby Jindal is leading in recent polls.
