The Nuremberg rally in Geneva

It’s difficult to get a rounded picture of the Geneva proceedings yesterday. The Jerusalem Post reports that the “Geneva ceremony becomes forum for slamming Israel.” The Washington Post provides an abbreviated account in “Unofficial peace plan for Mideast unveiled.” The New York Times provides a somewhat broader picture of the festivities in “Self-appointed Israeli and Palestinian negotiators offer a plan for Middle East peace.”
Only the Times story carries this revealing exercise in virtual history by Mister Peanut: “In an interview, Mr. Carter criticized both leaders in the region for not moving forward aggressively to make peace and the Bush administration for what he called its ‘bias’ toward Israel. He speculated that history might have been different if he had been re-elected president in 1980. ‘Had I been elected to a second term, with the prestige and authority and influence and reputation I had in the region, we could have moved to a final solution,’ he said.”
A final solution. Yes, indeed. Never were words more fitly spoken.
