Democrats Fear Conservative Inroads On Campus

Both survey data and anecdotal evidence indicate that in recent years there has been a swing to the right among America’s young people, especially on college campuses, with an increasing number of students identifying themselves as Republicans and conservatives. This trend recently received the best possible confirmation when Minnesota’s Republican Party obtained a fundraising letter from DFL party chairman Mike Erlandson to the Democratic faithful that said:
“[O]ver the last decade the one group we lost ground with is college age voters. There has been an alarming trend showing this group of young voters leaning Republican. We must increase our efforts targeted at this important block of voters; failing to do so could cost us not just a Democrat victory in Minnesota – but the White House!”
The Democrats are feeling besieged on all fronts these days.
