An angel descends on Milan

Thomas Gunderson of Milan, Minnesota was killed in action in Vietnam in 1970. For thirty-four years Gunderson’s parents have wondered if he died alone. This year a man they viewed as an angel descended in Milan to let them know that he had comforted their son as he died. The story, reported in this morning’s Star Tribune, is one of perseverance, patriotism, sacrifice and loss. It is today’s necessary reading: “Knowing he didn’t die alone is a comfort.”
