It’s the jihad, stupid!

We have frequently written about the lies and misconceptions in circulation about the key provisions of the PATRIOT Act. The left has knowingly used both as part of a ruthless campaign to vilify John Ashcroft and to strip America of its essential defenses to a rerun of 9/11. The ACLU has done likewise for the same purposes and for fundraising. I wrote about one illustrative experience speaking in defense of the Act before an audience of hate-America radicals at the national convention of the National Lawyers Guild in “Face to Face with Lynne Stewart.”
Today the magnificent Michelle Malkin comes to the defense of Attorney General Ashcroft himself and administers verbal justice on his behalf in “America, land of the Aschcroft haters.” The occasion of her column is Ashcroft’s illness together with concurrent conviction of three Virginia jihadists on terrorism charges in federal court. Here’s Michelle’s conclusion:

Every single time Ashcroft has brought charges against jihadists in America, he has been mocked and vilified. Every single time he has tightened the screws on Islamic terror recruitment and financing, he has been lambasted as a racist. Every single time they have been arrested, the defendants have proclaimed their absolute innocence. And each time Ashcroft has won convictions against them — neutralizing terror cells in Lackawanna, N.Y., Portland, Detroit, and now northern Virginia — he has been met with more condemnation and derision.
John Ashcroft has nobly taken on the grueling job of protecting a nation of ingrates who take joy in his illness while terrorists continue to plot to kill us all. God bless you, Attorney General, and get well soon. America, land of the free and home of the thankless, needs you back.

Don’t miss this column.
