Mirror Photos Faked?

The Telegraph is reporting that:

The British Army investigation into photographs of soldiers torturing an Iraqi prisoner is close to concluding that the pictures were faked by soldiers trying to cash in on rumours of brutality. The Ministry of Defence said the Royal Military Police wanted to question Piers Morgan, editor of the Daily Mirror, which published the photographs, and senior staff.

The controversy over the British photos has not received much attention in the U.S., where attention has naturally focused on accusations against our own troops. But the fact that the Mirror, a left-wing newspaper, may deliberately have published faked photos and false accounts of British soldiers’ brutality in order to damage Britain’s war effort and Tony Blair’s government deserves wider notice. It will be interesting to see the results of the British Army’s investigation.
