We apologize

We appropriate the words of Kenneth Neil:

Please forgive me for living in a state that elected Mark Dayton to the Senate. In the truest tradition of liberal asshattedness of Minnesota lawmakers, Mark Dayton announced to the American public that he is truly a putz, a result of being a fraction of a man of his ancestors. His so-called questioning of General Myers was the grandstanding of an idiot.
This needle-dicked pinhead used his time to question General Myers to put forth the charge that the General attempted to “suppress” CBS News from airing the Abu Ghraib story. Fearing that the General would answer his charge he attempted to shout over and interrupt the General. The panel chairman had to shut the “Idiot from the Great State of Minnesota” up so that General Myers could explain that the Senator didn’t have a fucking clue to what the word “suppress” meant and that what he did was try to get CBS to delay the release of the photos until the situation on the ground improved in Iraq. That he thought the photos would trigger reprisals against our troops.
Dayton made the claim that this was not only “suppression” (he managed to get that word out at least 10 times, in spite of being corrected after the first time) being used but the very act of a General asking for some consideration of the import of releasing information that helps our enemies was unprecedented. Donald Rumsfeld took that point on and corrected him rightly with a vengeance. Dayton tried his best to show that America is no different than Sudan or Nazi Germany, which I have no doubt he believes with all two brain cells. Dayton is one of the most ignorant Senators, if not the most. I have heard high-school dropouts with a better grasp of history….

I add the following personal note. At a charity auction in 1994 or so I won the opportunity to have Mark Dayton take me and a friend to lunch at the Minneapolis Club. The lunch occurred during Dayton’s service as the Minnesota state auditor. During the lunch, we argued politics and found no point of agreement. Senator Dayton nevertheless put me on his Christmas card list for roughly the next five years.
Over those five years, Senator Dayton used his Christmas cards to discuss the dissolution of his two marriages, his entry into rehabilitation for alcoholism, and related therapy issues. Even when Senator Dayton’s medications are properly titrated, he is a fellow who is not dealing from a full deck — as he showed the whole country today.
