Eyes on the prize

A Washington Post/ ABC News poll finds that seven out of ten Americans believe that Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld should not resign due to the actions of soldiers towards Iraqi prisoners. Even most Democrats do not think Rumsfeld should resign. The Post tries to salvage the story by rehashing other numbers showing that Americans are concerned and divided about the war generally. The bottom line is that Americans recognize the prison scandal for what it is, bad behavior by some soldiers, and are focused on the big picture — the overall progress of the occupation.
