Making hash of Hersh

Joel Mowbray has troubled himself to read the lengthy article by Seymour Hersh in the current New Yorker that attributes direct culpability for the Abu Ghraib interrogations to Donald Rumsfeld. Hersh’s anonymously sourced story appears to be dependent primarily on the word of “former intelligence officials.”
He finds the Pentagon’s denials of Hersh’s story more credible than Hersh’s story. Mowbray asks by what rationale Hersh conceals the identity of former government officials. He notes past carelessness with the facts in Hersh’s reporting and also notes certain disclaimers buried deep in the article that belie its thesis: “Sly Sy at it again.”
