Governor Schwarzenegger signed the first page of a Book of Remembrance in the California Capitol Building today. When complete, the book will be presented to the Reagan family. Schwarzenegger said of President Reagan:
I am deeply saddened by the passing of President Reagan. He was a great American patriot. I did not just admire him, I was fortunate enough to know him. He was a hero to me.
Governor Schwarzenegger’s proclamation on Reagan’s death reads in part:
[I]t is fit, proper and appropriate that a day be set aside in reverence to the memory of President Reagan as a great American patriot and Californian who profoundly changed the world by making it safer and freer and who gave hope and opportunity to millions of people.
