Doing well by thinking good

Another reason why I believe the Democrats could have done much worse than John Edwards on the ticket is that he’s smart, and not in the policy wonkish way that modern Democratic seeking national reputations try to be. Not only did Edwards make a fortune off of his lawyerly wits, but he’s apparently made money (or at least attempted to) from the recent defense buildup. According to the Boston Herald, “during the buildup and aftermath of the Iraq war, Edwards bought and sold stock in several defense contractors, including Lockheed Martin, United Technologies, General Electric, British Petroleum, and General Dynamics.”
