Good night, Douglas

One fascinating aspect of Kerry’s Kurtz chronicles is the position of historian Douglas Brinkley. On the one hand, Brinkley is the author of the authorized hagiography regarding Kerry’s Vietnam service and antiwar career. He had access to Kerry and all of Kerry’s documentary material. On the other hand, Brinkley’s book (Tour of Duty) doesn’t recount any version of Kerry’s secret mission to Cambodia.
Last week, however, Brinkley emerged in an interview with the Daily Telegraph to lend support to a version of Kerry’s story. Hugh Hewitt goes in for a closer look in his Standard Online column this morning: “A historian’s tour of duty.”
