Remembering Fern Holland

Deacon paid tribute to Fern Holland — an attorney whom he met and got to know as his adversary on a case — when she was murdered this past March while working to bring democracy and the rule of law to Iraq. Deacon first noted her death in “Fern Holland, RIP” and then reported on the memorial service held in her honor in “The cause for which Fern Holland died.” Today’s New York Times Magazine cover story by Elizabeth Rubin tells Fern Holland’s story at length and in detail: “Fern Holland’s war.”
