Bush Surging in Iowa

State 29 notes that two recent polls both have Bush leading in Iowa by six points: Survey USA, 51% to 45%, and Mason-Dixon, 49% to 43%. It is interesting that the Survey USA poll is likely voters, while the Mason-Dixon poll is registered voters.
State 29 also lists the Iowa registration numbers in August and currently. There continue to be a handful more Republican voters than Democratic voters in Iowa, with the proportions having changed hardly at all. In Iowa, at least, there is no evidence of a Democratic edge in new registrations.
Leaks keep springing up in Kerry’s boat. His problem is that he needs to win every state that he can win. There are a number of ways that President Bush can get to the electoral vote total he needs; Kerry has to run the table.
