No spin zone

Over at the Horserace Blog Jay Cost is working on a three-part analysis of the election. The first part is “Kerry and the Democrats.” The second part is “Bush and the Republicans.” The third part — covering media and the polls — is forthcoming. The focus here is entirely tactical, but interesting and refreshingly free of spin.
Cost’s criticism of the White House’s poor communications work on behalf of the president in the second part is biting. Cost zeroes in on the White House non-response to the fraudulent 60 Minutes documents as the height of its ineptitude:

The worst [instance of White House incompetence] came with the CBS memo scandal. Bloggers quickly determined that those memos were forged. But where was the White House on it? Those memos were, simply put, a smoking gun against Bush
