The stink bomb that keeps on smelling

Charles Krauthammer nails Arafat’s legacy (is anyone surprised?):

Deploying every instrument of propaganda — television, radio, newspapers and, most importantly, schools and summer camps for children — his Palestinian Authority fed his people a diet of such virulent anti-Semitism and denial of the Jewish connection with the land that no successor will even be in position to contemplate breaking Arafat’s rejectionist precedent.

Peace always depends on good-will. The Israelis agreed to “Oslo” in the hope that its feel-good aura, coupled with several years of making major concessions, would at least lessen the ill-will of Palestinians to the point that the “peace process” might succeed. But in making Arafat their “peace partner,” which meant giving him control of all major propaganda organs, they ensured that Palestinian hatred actually would increase dramatically. And so it has, to the point that an extra generation may be required just to get back to square one. That’s Arafat’s enduring legacy.
