The uses of pretzel logic

I have a fascination with fifty-something guys who find a second calling after achieving some success in their original careers. Last week the Wall Street Journal ran a wonderfully interesting article by Yoachi Dreazen about such a guy — former Steely Dan/Doobie Brothers guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, now an improbably successful defense consultant. The Journal’s Carl Bialik has graciously responded to our request to make the article freely available. Here it is: “Rocker Jeff Baxter moves and shakes in national security.”
UPDATE: Arthur Mitchell writes:

I had a meeting at the Pentagon a couple of weeks ago; the Admiral with whom I was meeting had a guitar in his office that was signed by Skunk. (He explained why.)

Mr. Mitchell doesn’t include the explanation, but I’m sure it was a good one.
