“Just going through the motions”

Lee Otis did a great job in her online debate with Seth Rosenthal over the Roberts hearings. Lee is, among many other things, a former clerk to Justice Scalia and a co-founder of the Federalist Society. Here’s her take on Roberts:

Judge Roberts has done a superb job. He is terrifically smart, funny, judicious, a great lawyer, and knowledgeable about law, history, and so much else. He is also a great listener. And he has a pretty clear vision of the role of the courts and the rule of law. In short, precisely the kind of person I want deciding important cases.

Lee, a veteran of the the Clarence Thomas confirmation war, concludes that, by the end, “the Democratic Senators [were] just going through the motions.”
