Polls Open in Afghanistan

The dogs bark, but the caravan passes by. Democracy proceeds apace in Afghanistan, with elections tomorrow (tonight, here in the U.S.) for the lower house of the National Assembly and for provincial councils. The State Department’s Bureau of South Asian Affairs has issued a handy guide on the election, to bring you up to date.
In the photo below, a Pashtun woman carries a voting booth through a school that will be used as a polling place. If you think about, this photo says a lot about the progress that is being made as a result of our intervention:
