I’ve been critical of various Washington Post headlines recently, but the Post nailed it today with this one — “Democrats Fear Backlash at Polls for Antiwar Remarks.” The fear, expressed by the likes of Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Rahm Emanuel, is not that the antiwar Democrats are advocating bad policies; it’s that they are creating a bad impression with the voters. Key Democrats like John “Who Will Be the Last to Die for a Mistake” Kerry apparently will advocate fighting a war in which they don’t believe for an extra year in order to improve the party’s 2006 electoral prospects. Then they’ll probably once again blame President Bush for misleading them into doing so.
