The Duke Chronicle reports: “DNA test results reveal no matches on the men’s lacrosse team.” The AP reports: “No DNA match in Duke gang rape case.” Make that “the late gang rape case.”

The allegations of rape led to the resignation of lacrosse coach Mike Pressler, the cancellation of the lacrosse season and the suspension of one player from school. See here for a copy of the flyer indicting the lacrosse team distributred by protestors on Duke’s west campus. The Duke president met with “black leaders” who protested the “stalling” of the case.

Prediction: Duke administrators, campus protestors, “black leaders,” the exotic dancer making the charges and the prosecutor campaigning for reelection threatening to press the charges will get off scotfree. (Thanks to LaShawn Barber.)

PAUL adds: It looks like the team was the victim here. If so, the dancer should be prosecuted, though Scott may well be correct in predicting that she won’t be. At the same time, I don’t feel any sympathy for the suspended player — he wrote a vile email about inviting more strippers over and killing them. And if reports regarding a pattern of arrests of lacrosse team members are true, I think it was proper for the coach to resign. With better adult supervision, the latest drama perhaps could have been avoided.

JOHN adds: You can see video of the prosecutor addressing what looks like an auditorium full of townspeople, and saying that the case isn’t going away, notwithstanding the DNA evidence, here.
