Listen to Bill Frist on Immigration

The Glenn and Helen Show scored a coup, I think, by getting an interview with Bill Frist on the subject of immigration. You can listen to it here.

I found Frist’s call for nonpartisanship on the issue a bit puzzling. When was the last time the Democrats were willing to take a nonpartisan approach on any issue? It may be that some Democratic votes will be required to pass a sensible bill, given the division among Republicans. But there is no point in trying to seek cover in a consensus, bipartisan solution. The issue of immigration is deeply controversial, and there is no consensus. That doesn’t mean that a majority can’t coalesce behind a good bill, obviously, but to hope for a nonpartisan approach to this issue is folly.
