Judge Luttig resigns

Judge Michael Luttig has resigned from the Fourth Circuit. Luttig was my first choice for both of the previous two Supreme Court vacancies. President Bush did well in selecting John Roberts and Samuel Alito, but no better than he would have done with Luttig.

This is a significant loss for the Fourth Circuit which already has two vacancies (the ones for which Jim Haynes and Terrence Boyle have been nominated). However, Luttig has served since the Bush I administration, and it’s understandable that he wants to move on.
