The Gerecht corrective

Paul recently noted Richard Posner’s new book on intelligence reform. A knowledgeable reader draws our attention to Reuel Marc Gerecht’s July 2004 Weekly Standard article on “The sorry state of the CIA” and comments:

The organizational culture, particularly the dynamics of career advancement, that [Gerecht] describes applies as well to the FBI — with due consideration for other differences between the two agencies. This is crucial to any intelligent discussion of intel reform, and this is an area that Posner crucially fails to understand. So, Gerecht is an excellent corrective for anyone reading Posner.
