Reverting to the form that brought the old UN Human Rights Commission into disrepute, the new UN Human Rights Council “voted Friday to make a review of alleged human rights abuses by Israel a permanent feature of every council session.” The resolution requires investigators to report at each council session on human rights violations in “occupied Palestine”:
The resolution also said the council “decides to undertake substantive consideration of the human rights violations and implications of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and other occupied Arab territories at its next session and to incorporate that issue in its following sessions.”
“Occupied Palestine” and “the Israeli occupation of Palestine and other occupied Arab territories” appear to refer to Israel itself and thus to deny Israel’s right to exist. Voting in favor of the resolution were 29 countries including the following paragons of justice: Algeria, Djibouti, Morocco, Tunisia, Bahrain, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Mexico, Russia, and China.
