Americans Aren’t Buying Hezbollah

The Israel Project commissioned a poll by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research and Public Opinion Strategies to sample American public opinion on the current conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The poll, of 850 likely voters, was conducted on August 2-3. The results are encouraging:

*53% have “warm” feelings toward Israel, 4% toward Hezbollah. (I hope the FBI is keeping an eye on that 4%.)

*67% say that Israel is “justified in doing what it is doing with Hezbollah and in Lebanon,” compared to only 21% who say “unjustified.”

*51% say Israel should continue its operations against Hezbollah, while 38% say Israel should stop.

*63% say “Islamic extremism” is “responsible for instability in the Middle East,” while only 15% blame “Israel and its policies.”

*74% say Israel is “protecting itself from attack,” while only 16% say Israel is “Pursuing expansionist policies into Palestinian and Arab lands.”

I think the American people have their minds pretty well made up between the Israelis who want to live in peace and the Arab extremists who want to destroy them, and the efforts of the left and elements of the media to construct an equivalence (or worse) between the two sides haven’t made much of a dent.
