Oriana Fallaci, Pope Benedict and Derek Jeter

Lots of tributes have been written to Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci, who died of cancer this week. One of the best is by Blog of the Week The Anchoress. The Anchoress manages to work the Pope and Rosie O’Donnell into her analysis as well.

She has lots of good stuff, actually, including an extensive discussion of Pope Benedict’s supposed faux pas from a Catholic perspecive.

And, in evidence that great (female) minds think alike, she shares my wife’s views on baseball, in an interview by her nephew:

Ace: Oh, that’s my next question, what’s your favorite sport?

Auntie: Baseball. It’s the greatest game in the world.

Ace: You don’t like football?

Auntie: Very good, you asked a question in response to my answer, good job! I’m just not a fan of sports with timers and clocks. ***

Ace: But baseball takes forever –

Auntie: Shut up, baseball has Derek Jeter.
