A Conspiracy So Vast…

Reuters has an interesting story on a report that federal prosecutors may bring the first treason charge since World War II against Adam Gadahn, a Muslim convert who joined al Qaeda and has made a series of videos threatening attacks against the U.S.
As I say, an interesting story. But the meta-story of the day, apparently, is Mark Foley, and all other news must be seen through the prism of its relevance (or lack thereof) to the formerly-obscure legislator. So Reuters can’t resist this weird interpolation:

The sources denied the case was timed to deflect attention from the fallout over lewd computer messages sent by a former Republican congressman to young male aides, a scandal that may help Democrats seize control of Congress in November 7 election.

Yes, I’m beginning to see it now…the Bush administration is fighting the war on terror in order to distract voters from Mark Foley! Are we living in an upside-down political world, or what?
