I think we have the most generous readers on the Internet and I ask you to consider pitching in to support Valour-IT. It provides voice-activated laptops to assist injured soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines with face and hand injuries so that they can stay connected with the world during recovery. Project Valour-IT began when Captain Charles “Chuck” Ziegenfuss was wounded by an IED while serving as commander of a tank company in Iraq in June 2005 and searched for a way to return to his blog while recovering. So far, the project has delivered 650 computers to soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines in Bethesda, Walter Reed, Balboa, and several other military hospitals, and there is demand for many more.
The project goal is to raise $180,000 by Veterans’ Day, and the fundraising is proceeding by a competition among Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force bloggers, with each team trying to raise $45,000. The Navy team is behind and we are signing up to help it out. The aggressive fundraising goal cannot be met without your support. Please consider giving — just click the “Make a Donation” button above between now and Veterans’ Day. Contributions can also be sent by check to:

Our recruiter Ken Adams adds: “Thanks for supporting this — it means more than you realize to the injured kids coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan.”
UPDATE: We’ve already heard from an ensign who asks to remain anonymous:

As a Naval Officer first, and an Intel weenie second, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you taking on the Navy in this worthwhile cause. Somehow it’s lost on the American public just how much the Navy is contributing to the Long War. Over thirty thousand are in the sandbox and elsewhere. Terrorism is fond of the water, but you don’t hear about it. Maybe it isn’t sexy enough for the news–or maybe, just maybe, the Navy is doing a helluva a job keeping the enemy rolling in the sand like a sugar cookie.
From the SEALs to the SEABEEs to the Intel bubbas to the Corpsmen, the Navy’s in the fight, and I’m grateful you are willing to draw some attention to our service.
Hooyah!
