Good News and Bad

The good news is from Afghanistan, where the Taliban’s top military commander, Mullah Dadullah, has been killed. This is the biggest blow to the Taliban in a long time, and was the result of an operation by U.S., Afghan and NATO troops. Dadullah was supposed to be leading the spring Taliban offensive that never happened.
The bad news is from Iraq, where it appears likely that al Qaeda has kidnapped three American soldiers.
There is something disorienting about following a war that half of our people don’t believe we’re fighting.
