Tehran calling

John has been writing about recent progress against al Qaeda in various hot spots in the war on terror. Over the weekend the New York Times (Saturday) and the Washington Post (Sunday) ran stories detailing the progress of the enemy in Afghanistan and Iraq in adapting to counterinsurgency tactics. Read these stories in the context of this paragraph buried in the current Newsweek story on the jousting between Vice President Cheney and Secretary Rice:
