Glittering prizes

This year’s Bradley Prize recipients included John Bolton, Martin Feldstein, Abigail and Stephan Thernstrom, and James Q. Wilson. In his Impromptus column today at NRO, Jay Nordlinger quotes generously from the Thernstroms’ acceptance speeches. Jay characterizes the Thernstroms’ remarks as “some of the most beautiful I have read in ages.” As a result of Jay’s column I have tracked down and read all of the speeches by this year’s prize winners. As you might expect, all of the speeches are worth reading — both Bolton’s and Wilson’s, for example, are utterly brilliant in their self-refuting modesty — and all are accessible via the Bradley Prize link above (click on “2007 Bradley Prize recipients” — “More Information” — “Acceptance Remarks”).
