Gen. Petraeus on Hugh Hewitt

We’re a little late on this, but it’s well worth catching up on if, like me, you missed it the first time around. On Wednesday, Hugh Hewitt tracked down General David Petraeus in Baghdad for an extended conversation. It is an extraordinary interview, in part because Hugh has the good sense–or the skill of a good lawyer–to ask a crisp question and then get out of the way. So, instead of listening to Chris Matthews or someone of that ilk spluttering incoherently, you get to hear a brief, clear question, followed by Petraeus’s intelligent response. One might think this would be SOP in the mainstream media; unfortunately, it isn’t. Anyway, it’s extremely informative, and here it is. Apparently lots of lefty bloggers (Andrew Sullivan, “Glenn Greenwald,” etc.) were irate about Gen. Petraeus appearing on Hugh’s show. Their position, I guess, is that military officers should give interviews only to hostile questioners representing either al Qaeda or the Democratic Party. That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but Hugh wrote a column about it here. My own view is that it is better to ignore these fringe characters.
