The case for bombing Iran: Readers respond

In June Commentary published Norman Podhoretz’s essay “The case for bombing Iran.” Commentary’s October issue features a full complement of letters responding to Podhoretz’s essay. Podhoretz begins his reply with a summation of his argument and the response it has received:

In my article, I tried to show that John McCain was right when he said that the only thing worse than bombing Iran is allowing Iran to get the bomb. I did this by (1) spelling out what was likely to happen if Iran should succeed in going nuclear; (2) demonstrating why neither diplomacy nor sanctions nor an internal insurrection could be relied upon to prevent this; (3) acknowledging the potential dangers of a bombing campaign; (4) drawing the unhappy conclusion that such a campaign was the only way to stop, or at least retard for years to come, the regime
