Balance in the “Mainstream” Media

Newsweek magazine has hired Markos Moulitsos to cover the 2008 Presidential election. Well, that will be a unique perspective. Time magazine, of course, isn’t far behind: Ana Marie Cox, the original Wonkette, runs its D.C. bureau. (She’s a lefty, too, but it’s nothing personal; I liked Ms. Cox when I worked with her a few years ago, for NBC and others.)
The Associated Press, meanwhile, hasn’t hired any noted leftists to cover the Presidential campaign. But, then, it doesn’t need to; it has so many already on its payroll. Don’t worry, though, they’re cynical, hard-bitten journalists. No, wait:

In a Nov. 13 story, The Associated Press incorrectly reported that Paris Hilton was praised by conservationists for highlighting the problem of binge-drinking elephants in northeastern India. Lori Berk, a publicist for Hilton, said she never made any comments about helping drunken elephants in India.
The AP

Well, you can hardly blame the AP. The story was so plausible.
Comparing these people to us, one can only wonder: why, exactly, are they the ones who are considered “mainstream”?
PAUL adds: The highly astute and politically sophisticated Markos comes aboard just in time to cover the stretch drive of Mark Warner, the man Markos predicted would supplant Hillary Clinton as the Democratic frontrunner in 2008.
