Generally, the results so far are consistent with the polls. Sadly, to the extent that anyone on the Republican side can claim to be exceeding expectations so far, it’s Mike Huckabee. In addition to West Virginia, he is being projected the winner in Arkansas and Alabama and is running strongly in Missouri, Georgia, Tennessee and other states.
Here in Minnesota, the turnout anecdotally appears very large, with Romney reportedly leading the non-binding straw poll.
Romney needs to do very well in California.
UPDATE: Georgia is being called for Huckabee. Mitt Romney is on television, giving the closest thing to a stem-winder I’ve seen him deliver. He might as well, since he’s getting the free air time, but it’s a little too late, I’m afraid.
