How quickly I forget

Yesterday, in writing about how rarely presidential nominees confer the number two spot on defeated rivals, I said this has only happened twice since 1956 (Kennedy-Johnson and Reagan-Bush). Of course, it also happened in 2004 when John Kerry held his patrician nose and put John Edwards on the ticket despite having concluded that Edwards was a shameless phony.
John McCain seems to have a similar view of Mitt Romney. Whatever the merits of that view, McCain may be less inclined than Kerry was to put this perception to one side.
