Less cowbell!

It’s Stanley Cup playoff season from now into the indefinite future. In the Twin Cities, we’re hoping that the Minnesota Wild will make it out of the first round of the playoffs. In Washington, D.C., Rich Lowry made it to the Capitals-Flyers game to cheer on the hometown team. The guy in front of him maniacally banging the cowbell caused Rich to start rooting against the Caps. Along with many others, I wrote to tell Rich that his post should obviously have been headed “Less Cowbell!”

When we posted the classic Saturday Night Live “more cowbell” skit reconstructing the making of Blue Öyster Cult’s (dark) classic “Don’t Fear the Reaper” here in February 2007, we heard from the song’s composer:

I’m Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser from Blue Öyster Cult, lead guitarist and the author and vocalist of “Don’t Fear The Reaper.”

I’m a longtime frequent Power Line reader, and I’m enjoying the play BOC and The Reaper have recently gotten on the Power Line blog, in the “Don’t Fear the Professor” and “More Cowbell” posts.

Keep up the good work. You folks, Glenn Reynolds and others are some of my prime news aggregators these days. Heck, I’ve even got the t-shirt.

For what appears to be a relatively recent live rendition of the song with impressive guitar pyrotehcnics, check out this video; for a fan’s personal video tribute to the original version of the song that has over 700,00 views, check out this video.
