It Won’t Be Webb

Congressional Quarterly reports that earlier today, Senator Jim Webb’s office released a statement to the effect that he will not be Barack Obama’s running mate:

Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for vice president. Last week I communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country.

Webb would have given Obama heartburn at times, but he would have given us Republicans heartburn as well. Over the weekend, I saw some pundits debating Obama’s vice-presidential options; Joe Biden was a popular choice. That’s just the ticket, I think: Joe Biden.
