If You Want to Be Really Optimistic…

…you can imagine that John McCain could carry New York. The Siena poll released today has Barack Obama with only a five-point lead in the Empire State, down dramatically from where it was in the spring. The poll is based on interviews conducted from September 8-10, before most of the anti-McCain and Palin media hysteria of the last few days. So it may represent a high-water mark for McCain’s chances. Still, it indicates that even the safest of blue states may not be a sure thing when the Democrats nominate a weak candidate and the Republicans a strong one.

Hey, don’t forget: Ronald Reagan carried New York twice.
