A good sign

Two Senate Democrats broke ranks with their party last night on the Big Three-UAW bailout legislation. They were Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas and Jon Tester of Montana.

We’ve been focused on Lincoln for some time. She comes from a Red State, has not been a particularly distinguished Senator, and is up for re-election in 2010. Add to this the fact that Wal-Mart is headquartered in Arkansas, and it seems likely that If there are any Senate Dems to be won over on “card check” legislation, Lincoln is one of them.

So it was good to see her moving to right last nighy on an issue of importance to organized labor.

SCOTT adds: According to Michael O’Brien’s story on Governor Granholm’s reaction to the defeat of the auto bailout, Lincoln’s and Tester’s opposition to the bailout bill places them in the ranks of the “un-American.”

PAUL adds: Our friend Ed Morrissey reminds me that Montana Democrat Max Baucus also broke ranks with his party to join the “un-Americans.”
