Macleans hails Mark Steyn as the new Bing Crosby. Mark earns the appellation in connection with “It’s a Marshmallow World,” the single he recorded with his old pal Jessica Martin. Mark is selling the single for $1.00 together with his terrific new book A Song for the Season. The book collects some of Mark’s best Song of the Week columns written for Steyn Online.

I learned from the book that Mark began writing his Song of the Week columns for the same reason that I started profiling composers and musicians here. He sought a change of pace from writing about poitics. However, Mark brings his native wit as well as his personal acquaintance with many of the composers to bear on his discussion of the songs. The Song of the Week columns are thus part memoir, part tribute, part music criticism, and altogether brilliant. See, for example, Mark’s new Song of the Week column on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
