No 60

Senator Saxby Chambliss won a surprisingly easy victory over Democrat Jim Martin today, trouncing Martin 59 percent to 41 percent with 90 percent of precincts reporting. Saxby’s win means the Democrats can’t get to a filibuster-proof 60 votes this year; if Norm Coleman prevails here in Minnesota, the Democrats will have 58 votes to the Republicans 42. Which means, I guess, that the Dems will have to sway both Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe in order to pass controversial legislation.
