On Israel’s force de frappe

In my tentative theses about Obama and Iran, I speculated that Obama intended ultimately to serve up Israel’s nuclear weapons in exchange for an agreement with Iran. Eli Lake has an extremely interesting story in today’s Washington Times on the subject.
According to Lake, in a meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu this past May, President Obama reaffirmed a 40-year-old secret understanding that allows Israel to keep its nuclear arsenal without opening it to international inspections. Lake bases his report on interviews with “three officials familiar with the understanding.” Are those administration officials? Lake doesn’t say. Lake also quotes Prime Minister Netanyahu speaking to Israel’s Channel 2 last week about his May meeting with President Obama.
Lake’s article tends to demonstrate the inherent conflict between Obama’s professed “Imagine” nuclear policy and Israeli policy. Something’s gotta give.
